The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has remained confident that Tanzania are on track to co-host the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside East Africa neighbours Kenya and Uganda.

Speaking after touring the facilities being readied for the tournament, the CAF President said he was impressed with what he had seen.

“We have got a team of experts who are based here permanently and they have been giving feedback to us on the on-going faces of renovations, preparations as well as the readiness and I must say I leave Dar es Salaam with a lot of optimism and with a lot of confidence,” Motsepe told Pan-Africa Football.

“There is still some work that needs to be done but I am absolutely confident that the work that needs to be done will be concluded before the end of the month (December) and we will be hosting the most successful CHAN in the history of the Africa Nations Championship.

“What I wanted to see personally is they gave me a detailed report on this beautiful stadium as well as some of the specific areas, I had to go and see the changing rooms, the players rooms because you could see there is a very good work that has been done and of course they gave me a list and gave CAF specific areas that they are working on including the training fields because there is a number of nations that will be staying here.”

Motsepe concluded: “So I must say good work and one of the things that I wanted to see is to ask the private sector to support and sponsor football, business people should come in and support the game, football is good for investment it improves living conditions of our people.”

Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will host the tournament from February 1-28th in 2025. It will also be the first time that the CHAN tournament is hosted by three countries. The CHAN tournament is exclusively for players who compete in their respective national League competitions.

The 2024 CHAN tournament will be the eighth edition, and the third time that it is hosted in the CECAFA Zone after Sudan in 2011 and Rwanda in 2016.
