Egypt international Mohamed Salah has reacted after he became the first player in the club’s history to reach a half-century of strikes in Europe by opening the scoring in the 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Lille at Anfield on Tuesday.
Salah found the back of the net for the Reds in the 34th minute after applying a finishing touch to a Curtis Jones through ball.
Jonathan David equalised for Lille after the French Ligue 1 side had been reduced to 10 men, but Harvey Elliott's deflected effort sent Lille to their first defeat in 22 matches.
"Hopefully [I'm] not the last one but it's something I'm very happy and proud about – and especially because we won the game, so that's the most important thing,” Salah told Amazon Prime Video as quoted by the club’s official website.
On playing alongside Elliot, Salah said: “I'm happy for him, I'm always there to help him. He's a great lad and always tries to give his best – sometimes [he plays] five minutes, today he had 45 minutes. He was great, so I'm happy for him.
“I think when you want to win a big tournament, you have to have a big squad. We have a good one at the moment, so hopefully we carry on like that.”
On facing a tough Lille, Salah explained: “They [Lille] have a really good game plan, I think they were unbeaten for 21 games, so it's a tough team and they showed that in the first half and second half.
“I will give them credit but I'm glad that we managed to win the game.”
The goal against Lille was his 22nd goal of the season, while he has managed 17 assists. He is currently on 233 Liverpool goals, just eight shy of Gordon Hodgson, who is third in the Reds’ list of all-time top scorers.
So far this season, Salah has featured in 31 matches in all competitions, managed 2598 minutes of playtime and scored 22 goals.
