Promising Ugandan goalkeeper Venacious Nsumba officially joined Malawi top-tier side Chitipa United Football Club on a one-year contract.
The former Uganda Hippos (U-20) shot-stopper was unveiled by the Chitipa town-based club after spending two weeks training with the team, commonly known as “The Lions of Fort Hill.”
Chitipa United hosts its home fixtures at the 20,000-seater Karonga Stadium in Northern Malawi. “I am happy to be at Chitipa United Football Club, and I want to help the club achieve its goals as well as mine. I am here to compete and give the best of my ability, and I thank the club for the trust they have put in me,” Nsumba told Pan-Africa Football after signing.
Chitipa United’s General Secretary, Watson Kabaghe, confirmed the signing, noting that the club sees great potential in the young Ugandan keeper. Nsumba is known for his excellent shot-stopping ability, sharp reflexes, good game reading and his commanding presence between the posts.
His football journey began at the Peace for Children Sports Academy in Kisenyi before moving on to Mydel Youth Academy and All Winners FC Academy in Lubaga. He played high school football at Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga, where he continued to build his profile as a future star.
He has been involved with the development structure of Wakiso Giants FC and has had opportunities abroad, including trials in France with Hyeres Football Club in the National Football League Two.
He also trialed in South Africa with Pretoria Callies FC, who scouted him during the country’s most prestigious township tournament, the “Philly’s Games.” Before his move to Malawi, Nsumba was featuring for Kajjansi United FC in Uganda’s Buganda Regional League.
