Ethiopian premier league Ethiopian Insurance suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to Fasil Kenema in Adama. The loss ended Insurance’s 12 games unbeaten run as head coach Gebremedhin Haile stated it was a very difficult encounter.
Speaking to Super Sport in a post-match interview, Haile said Fasil Kenema were a difficult opposition. “It was bad for us. The situation was not good at all. There was aggressive play. My boys were not comfortable due to the aggressiveness of the match and the poor condition of the playing pitch. We lost on our 13th game. So this can happen.”
Insurance were kept at bay for the large part of the game as they failed to break a resilient defensive approach by Fasil Kenema. Haile admitted his side could not create scoring opportunities. “I am not satisfied with that regard. The main reason is that our opposition focused more on its defensive approach. They had a static defense. We knew their approach but we could not penetrate and create chances.”
The former Ethiopia coach also blamed a poor officiating in the first half as he claimed a penalty should have been awarded for his side when Mohammed Abera was brought down inside the box by Fasil center back Megnot Debebe. “It is an obvious foul. I can’t say much about it.”
Ethiopian Insurance still tops the standing with 32 points, three ahead of second placed Saint George.
