Uganda Crested Cranes forward Joanitah Ainembabazi has completed a short-term move to India’s top-flight Kickstart Women Football Club, based in Karnataka City.

The sharp attacker joins as a free agent following the expiration of her contract with Tanzania Women’s Premier League side Simba Queens. Ainembabazi departed Entebbe International Airport via Ethiopian Airlines and arrived in Bengaluru at Kempegowda International Airport to link up with her new team according to Kawowo Sports.

Her football journey includes stints at Tanzanian side Ceasaa Queens where she scored seven goals in eight matches during the 2022 season and Ugandan clubs Tooro Queens, Rines WFC and She Corporate. At She Corporate, she showcased her talent on the continental stage, featuring in the CECAFA zone CAF Women’s Champions League, where they fell to Simba Queens in the final.

Ainembabazi also represented Uganda at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) proving her mettle as a diligent forward with exceptional ball control, dribbling skills, passing precision and a knack for scoring from different ranges.

Kickstart Women FC, co-owned by Shekar Rajan and Laxman Bhattarai was established on July 9, 2016 and is coached by Langam Chaoba Devi.

Ainembabazi becomes the latest Uganda Crested Cranes player to move to India, joining Amina Nababi (Sethu Women FC), Fazila Ikwaput (Gokulam Kerala) and Resty Nanziri (East Bengal Women) in expanding the Ugandan footprint in the Indian Women’s League.
