Ghana President H E John Dramani Mahama has tasked newly appointed Sports Minister Kofi Adams to restore the senior national men’s team to its glory days.
The Black Stars have struggled in recent years, exiting the Africa Cup of Nations in round 16 at the 2019 edition in Egypt. The team followed it up with two successive group stage departures at the 2021 and 2023 versions in Cameroon and Ivory Coast respectively.
The four time Africa champions failed to qualify for the next edition of the tournament in Morocco after collecting just three draws and three loses in six qualifying matches.
President John Mahama believes it is time to revitalize the Black Stars and has urged Kofi Adams to lead that charge.
"I expect that you concentrate on building up all the sporting disciplines. I know the Ghana Football Association would be a good place to start to make sure that we return the Black Stars to their glory days," President Mahama stated.
Minister Kofi Adams is expected to work closely with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to implement policies that will strengthen grassroots development, improve infrastructure, and ensure proper management of sports in the country.
