FC Midtjylland Women have officially secured the signature of Crested Cranes star midfielder Phiona Nabbumba. The Danish club made the announcement on their official platforms, celebrating the arrival of a Ugandan player whose influence extends beyond the pitch.

Nabbumba, previously with She Corporate before joining Danish side B93 in 2023, played a key role in helping B93 secure top-flight football. Known for her composure, tactical acumen, and versatility, she now steps into a bigger challenge with FC Midtjylland Women.

"A perfect fit for Midtjylland DNA"

Sports Director Anders Madsen praised Nabbumba during her unveiling, calling her an excellent addition to the squad.

“We are pleased to add Phiona Nabbumba to our talented and strong squad. She brings valuable experience from the Gjensidige Women’s League and international matches for Uganda. Phiona embodies FCM DNA: she’s willing to run, aggressive, strong in positioning, and exceptional in dueling situations,” Madsen noted.

He added, “Phiona will bolster our midfield, helping us stay compact, improve our pressing game, and maintain balance during transitions.”

Nabbumba's excitement and ambition

The 22-year-old midfielder, brimming with enthusiasm, expressed her joy at joining a club renowned for its commitment to excellence.

“I am delighted to be joining FC Midtjylland! The club’s commitment to women’s football and its reputation for excellence align with my own values and ambitions. I look forward to contributing to the club’s growth and success,” Nabbumba said.

She also reflected on her personal aspirations, stating:

“My ambition is to become one of the best players in the world. I strive to improve, learn, and push myself to new heights. I am excited to see where my journey takes me, and I am grateful to join FC Midtjylland.”

From Uganda to Denmark: A remarkable journey

Nabbumba’s career has been nothing short of stellar. In 2021/22, she was named FUFA Women Super League MVP after leading She Corporate to the league title. The following year, she earned the USPA Player of the Year award and was part of Uganda’s CECAFA Senior Women Challenge Cup-winning squad.

Her professional journey began with Ajax Queens before her breakthrough at She Corporate FC, where she cemented her reputation as one of Uganda's finest talents. After her successful stint at B93, this move to FC Midtjylland marks another chapter in her inspiring journey.

Nabbumba’s signing is not just a boost for FC Midtjylland but also a testament to the growing influence of Ugandan players on the global stage.
