It did not take long for Ghana national team forward Jordan Ayew to make an impact for Leicester City in their English Premier League clash against leaders Liverpool on Thursday. However, joy turned to inevitable defeat for scrappy Leicester after Mohamed Salah struck late to cement a 3-1 victory for the hosts at Anfield.
The 33-year-old veteran fired in a low effort to put visitors Leicester ahead in the 6th minute, collecting a cross from Stephy Mavididi before turning and finishing past Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson for his fourth Premier League goal of the season and fifth in all competitions.
Liverpool leveled the match before halftime through Cody Gakpo and took over in the second half despite a fighting effort from underdogs Leicester. Curtis Jones put the hosts ahead before five minutes elapsed in the second half and Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah confirmed victory with a trademark strike in the 82nd minute.
With Chelsea's defeat to Fulham earlier on Thursday, Liverpool are not seven points clear of the Blues with one less match played. Salah now has 16 goals in 17 Premier League matches this season.
