Ghana international Joseph Paintsil has watered down claims by a section of Ghanaian media that, the Major League Soccer is a platform for aged players who are nearing retirement.

Paintsil moved to the United States to join Los Angeles Galaxy at a ripe age of 26 from Belgium club, KRC Genk with many questioning the idea.

A section of Ghanaians have equally criticized the MLS’ quality level but Paintsil has stated how competitive the league is, insisting some top European players underperform when they go to America.

Painstil exemplified the qualities brought into the MLS by some top stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Olivier Giroud who were a toast of many football fans in their various European clubs.

"It's not as easy as people think. People say it is a retirement league but trust me a lot of Europeans can go there and can really flop in the first season," he told Joy Sports.

"So it is not a league that should be taken for granted. It is a league that really is really serious in making an impact in the world. You have the likes of Messi, you have the likes of Busquets, a whole lot of players. Giroud, Marco Reus, Riqui Puig. There are a lot of great players there so it is interesting now to play in the MLS," he added.

Painstil enjoyed a successful first season in the league, scoring 14 goals to help LA Galaxy win the title for the sixth time.
