Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has said he hopes the South African team’s fans would forgive them after bouncing back from a poor run to beat 10-man Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership match on Sunday.

Youssef, stepping in for his suspended boss Nasreddine Nabi, said this in a post-match with SuperSport Television.

“Congratulations to the players. They made everything right. In every game, we play well and create a lot of opportunities. In the first half, we created many chances but didn’t score. We were unlucky,” he said.

The stand-in coach said he told the players to attack more in the second half and take more risks hence the goal. “In the second half, we decided that if we didn’t score atleast we should not lose…Congratulations to the fans. Maybe they will forgive us for the last loss when we played against Golden Arrows,” Youssef added.

The assistant coach stepped in the shoes of Nabi who is serving a two-game suspension after he received a red card following the 1-0 loss to Arrows the previous weekend.

In his absence, Chiefs won the game through Mfundo Vilakazi’s 86th minute goal, two minutes after Sekhukhune were reduced to 10 men. Vuyo Letlapa was sent for an early shower.

In a post-match interview, Sekhukhune Lehlohonolo coach Seema said his team had a bad day and it got worse after the red card. “It is a game we should quickly forget about,” he said.

“The team that won today created a lot better chances from the beginning of the game. I can't fault the guys, they tried. These things happen in football,” he said.

Chiefs moved up by two places to fifth place, two points behind the fourth-placed Sekhukhune in the log table.
