Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has praised the impact of new arrivals midfielder Thabo Cele, strikers Tashreeq Morris and Glody Makabi Lilepo in Tuesday’s two-all draw with AmaZulu.
Morris and Lilepo contributed to the two goals in a chaotic Betway Premiership encounter that produced two own goals, unbelievable misses, and end-to-end drama that kept a packed FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on the edge of their seats.
Reacting to the trio’s performance, Nabi said Cele brought stability to the midfield while the two strikers contributed to the own goals AmaZulu scored.
“We are happy with Tashreeq and even Lilepo and Thabo Cele. The proof is the two goals we scored— one was on Tash and the second, Lilepo. Thabo brings a lot of fluidity and smartness to the midfield,” he told SuperSport Television.
“Unfortunately, they were a little bit tired in the second half. We feel that if they had more preparation, they would help us more. We feel that the three signings are good and would help the team a lot.”
AmaZulu co-coach Arthur Zwane felt the draw was a fair result of the game considering they were playing the wounded hosts.
"We started very shaky. We gave them too much space, time, and respect on the ball. However, at half-time, we talked to the boys…we are a work in progress. We are getting there steadily and surely. A point away from home against wounded Kaizer Chiefs is not easy,” he said.
Chiefs went ahead through some stroke of luck when their former defender Ramahlwe Mphalele scored an own goal in the 18th minute before Tshepang Moremi equalised for the visitors five minutes later.
The two teams went to break locked at one-all. The visitors extended their lead on the half-hour mark through new signing Elmo Kambindu. Chiefs needed yet another own-goal to level up matters, this time from AmaZulu goalkeeper Richard Ofori who punched the ball into his net while clearing Lilepo's header.
