Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the return of head coach Nasreddine Nabi as they prepare to face rivals Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership Soweto derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The Tunisian tactician has not been in the dugout for Chiefs last two matches – against Sekhukhune United which they won 1-0 and the Nedbank Cup round of 32 fixture against Free Agents which they won 4-0 – owing to a red card received during their 1-0 defeat against Golden Arrows on January 12.
According to Amakhosi, the return of Nabi will be a huge boost to the side as they prepare for the must-win for the derby.
“Giving a timely boost to morale, Chiefs coach, Nasreddine Nabi, returns to the bench after a two-match suspension, bringing renewed hope and strategy to the team,” Chiefs confirmed in a statement on their official website.
Chiefs further confirmed the availability of new signings Glody Lilepo, Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele for the fixture against a Pirates side, who are currently sitting second on the league table with 27 points from 11 matches.
“His presence will be bolstered by three new signings, Glody Lilepo, Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele, all eager to prove their mettle in this storied rivalry. Football fans will be watching closely to see if they adapt quickly enough to make significant impact,” the statement explained.
Looking beyond league meetings, when including cup encounters, the teams have fought it out a total of 180 battles, with Kaizer Chiefs’ 74 victories dominating historically over Pirates’ 47, with 54 draws and five abandonments, owing to various circumstance.
