Kaizer Chiefs made a disappointing return to Betway Premiership action following the FIFA international interruption, going down 2-1 to Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart, who had earlier missed a penalty, equalised four minutes after Nduduzo Sibaya had given Abafana Bes’thende a 25th minute lead, as the teams went into halftime level at 1-1. Knox Mutizwa settled the matter with the winning goal twelve minutes from full-time.

Speaking after the game, Amakhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi said they deserved a better result from the fixture while admitting that the injury of Thabo Cele in the first half disorganised the team.

“We feel we controlled the game in the first half and could have scored as we were in a very good moment but we didn’t,” Nabi told SABC Sport. “The injury of Thabo Cele in the first half, disorganised us a bit in the second half, in terms of liasing with the defence and attack, we didn’t start well in the second half.

“But the changes we made, helped us come back into the game, then we conceded a goal out of nowhere and after that it’s very difficult to come back from that.”

Nabi concluded: “The fans of Chiefs need to understand… we feel we should have scored in the opening half when we had better moments and positive to create better opportunities, when you don’t score, it costs us.

“It’s a very tough loss today and hard to accept. It puts the club and team in a difficult position and the fans of this club has no joy.”

The disappointing result left Amakhosi lying in the eighth position in the 16-team league standings with 29 points from now 23 matches and they will next face TS Galaxy on April 5, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
