Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior has assured the team’s faithful of squad reinforcements, saying it would be foolish of the club “not to be doing anything in this January transfer window.”

He said this on Thursday during an open media day in Johannesburg ahead of Sunday’s Betway Premiership match against Sekhukhune United. Motaung's remarks come amid concerns about the Soweto giants’ indifferent start to the season under new Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi.

“It would be foolish of us not to be doing anything in this window,” he added. Motaung admitted that Chiefs are not yet there in terms of performance but insisted there is progress. He added that it is wrong for some quarters to suggest that management is not doing anything to address the team’s flaws.

“We had always requested the supporters and the stakeholders to understand that there is a great deal of patience that would be needed,” he said. The director said their strategy for signing new players focused on the defence first and eventually attention would be given to attackers.

“We deliberately took the approach of signing from the back first. The foundation is very important for us and it is a kind of a conundrum because we have conceded the goals we have conceded,” he added. AmaKhosi have conceded 16 goals in 13 matches, the second worst defensive record in the league behind Marumo Gallants who have shipped 21 goals.

The Soweto giants have lost twice in the last three games while winning once, hence they must be wary of Sekhukhune who are coming off of 2-0 and 3-0 wins over AmaZulu and SuperSport United in the last two games.

Babina Noko, as Sekhukhune are also called, occupy third place in the log table whereas AmaKhosi sit in sixth.
