Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has explained why they are not focusing on the Soweto derby against rivals Orlando Pirates with the Betway Premiership fixture two weeks away.
Amakhosi, who have been blowing hot and cold this season, are preparing to face Sekhukhune United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday. After the league fixture, they will face minnows Free Agents FC before they come up against Pirates on February 1.
Asked about the Pirates game, Youssef said as quoted by idiskitimes: “For us there is Sekhukhune, after that is cup game. We don’t think about next month or derby, the team is focussed on managing the next game When it’s the week of the derby I can answer for you what we have to prepare for the derby.”
Having been sent off following their 1-0 defeat against Golden Arrows, Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi will miss matches against Sekhukhune United and Free Agents but he will be available for the derby.
Meanwhile, coach Nabi revealed that 27-year-old striker Ashley Du Preez will miss the next four weeks with an injury.
“Ashley Du Preez is out after having to come off against Stellenbosch and, according to estimates from our medical staff, could be back within four weeks,” Nabi said.
Chiefs are currently sitting sixth on the league table with 18 points from 13 matches. They have secured five wins, three draws and suffered five defeats.
