Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has openly admitted the South African outfit deserves to be higher up in the Betway Premiership table and competing with the best in the country.

Amakhosi have had a rather mixed outing in the Betway Premiership, failing to challenge for the title as they are currently sitting eighth on the 16-team league table with 29 points from 23 matches. They have managed eight wins, five draws and suffered 10 defeats.

“Yeah, for sure man, for Kaizer Chiefs to be sitting where we're sitting, it's not nice, you can call it a crisis because I feel like even us as a team, we feel that we can do way better and we're working on that,” Cele said as quoted by SABC Sports.

“Eventually I think it's something that is gonna come if we just keep on working on it and just believe in what we're doing it's gonna come because as we were talking, I think there's many positives that we can see but it's just a matter of being consistent and getting the results.”

On what has failed them so far this season, Cele said: “Yeah, I think you're right because we always look to control the games but sometimes, we tend to lose control very easily and it's something that's frustrating but I think it's something that we've been working on because if you see now, we're able to start from here, get here then to the final third.

“So, the control aspect I think is something that we have to maintain and just improve our final third results. So, I think with the coach, it's the message that's always there, that control, control, control so that we can create more chances and just win games.

“So, that's the message even amongst ourselves. When we talk amongst ourselves, it's just to maintain the positive frequency because in these times you have to be positive, so you have that drive to go again and again and again. So, that's the message amongst ourselves and the technical team, positivity.”

Chiefs will return to action with a league game against TS Galaxy at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
