Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi believes there is still a long way to go before Amakhosi fans start to see a team they dream of.
According to the Tunisian gaffer, Amakhosi are headed in the right direction but must still improve on a few areas. Chiefs qualified for the quarter-finals of the domestic Nedbank Cup following a 3-0 win against Chippa United on Saturday.
They are currently lying sixth on the Betway Premiership league table with 25 points from 17 matches. Chiefs have won seven matches, drawn four and lost six.
“I would say that we still have a lot of work to do, a long road to go, and it's not like a false modesty, but we don't believe we are even half of the team that we dream of for Kaizer Chiefs,” said Nabi as quoted by SABC Sports.
“But the biggest certainty is that we are headed in the right direction, the players understand what they need to do, and we feel that they are coming together – honestly, the process continues.”
On the win against Chippa, Nabi said: “I wouldn't say that this was our best game since the beginning of the season because we felt that at some point, especially the last 20-25 minutes of the first half, we didn't have control of the game and we let Chippa come at us with long balls, and we knew they were going to use that.
“But we believe, if we can improve in those little things and have control of the game for the whole 90 minutes, like being the team that decides the tempo of the game, when we need to accelerate and when we need to slow down, then that will be a consistent team.”
Chiefs will return to league action against SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
