Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana international Mandla Masango has called on the team to carry their form of beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup to the Betway Premiership for the remaining matches of the season.

Amakhosi qualified for the final of the domestic Cup following a 2-1 win against Sundowns in the semi-finals to set up a final date with Orlando Pirates, who eliminated Marumo Gallants 1-0, on May 10.

According to Masango, Chiefs must show consistency when they return to league action with an away fixture against Chippa United on Saturday.

“I think this win will most definitely do a world of wonders for these guys because now, you know when you're in a big game, it gives you that motivation factor that you can build momentum from,” Masango said as quoted by SABC Sports.

“Now everyone is confident that we can be able to win, we beat Sundowns, why not beat Chippa. So I think this was a massive boost to morale for the team, I won't lie. Now, it's just a matter of being consistent, that's all.”

On Chiefs qualification to the final, Masango said: “It was a good thing that Chiefs managed to get into the final because now we need more teams in the African competitions. As you can see, Pirates and Sundowns, they're doing well and it really boosts the national team in terms of having that experience and competing at that level, you know.

“So, it's good and I hope also Chiefs get to that level where they compete in Africa as well. We are very much optimistic that the trophy drought will come to an end, that's what we're looking forward to, they have a chance, it's just 90 minutes to rewrite everything to erase all the 10 years. So, this is the opportunity for them, it's there for the taking.”

The fixture against the Chilli Boys will be played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
