Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has openly criticised his players for not taking their chances in the frustrating 0-0 Betway Premiership stalemate against Cape Town City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
Amakhosi will rue a catalogue of missed opportunities from the fixture. Apart from a handful of instances where Cape Town broke forward, Chiefs enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and territory, yet they failed to convert the numerous of opportunities they created.
After the visiting side threatened to take the lead with only 10 minutes played when keeper Bruce Bvuma was called into action and pulled off an excellent reflex save to keep Nathan Fasika’s header out, Amakhosi took control of the game from there on, but they could not score because of inaccurate finishing.
“We are in this position because we lose too many points like that. We control the game, we create chances, but don’t score,” the Tunisian coach told SuperSport TV after the game. “In those moments you need to be clinical. Come on, it’s Kaizer Chiefs. It’s not possible [to miss those chances], it’s Kaizer Chiefs.
“I say, ok we lose the points today, but we have a game on the weekend. We need three points this week, but it’s never easy. No game is easy, all the teams play like that. Maybe another team with more quality attacks [more]. We need more, we need more. Every player must remember it’s a big responsibility to play for Kaizer Chiefs.
“If we give him five minutes, if we give him 10 minutes, he must sacrifice himself on the pitch.”
In the end, Amakhosi were forced to accept a draw and a point apiece, which took them to 29 points from 21 matches and kept them in eighth position in the league table.
Chiefs will travel to the east coast for their next league fixture against Richards Bay at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, on Sunday, March 16.
