Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC), one of Uganda's football giants has officially filed an appeal against the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Disciplinary Panel's decision in a petition brought forward by Mbarara City FC.

The controversy arose after FUFA confirmed on Wednesday that KCCA FC forfeited their Uganda Premier League (UPL) match against Mbarara City due to fielding an ineligible player, Gavin Kizito. The Ankole Lions were awarded three points and three goals following the ruling.

In their appeal, KCCA FC expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. A statement from the club read:

"Following the recent decision from the FUFA Disciplinary Panel regarding the match against Mbarara City FC, KCCA FC has formally lodged an appeal. We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of all rules, sportsmanship, and fair play."

The initial fixture, played on January 7, 2025 at Kakyeeka Stadium saw KCCA FC win 2-0 with second-half goals from Etienne Katenga and Emmanuel Anyama. However, Mbarara City later petitioned FUFA asserting that KCCA had fielded Gavin Kizito who was ineligible due to accumulating three yellow cards in matches against Mbale Heroes, Police FC and NEC FC.

The FUFA Referees Disciplinary Panel also penalized referee William Oloya suspending him for six months. Oloya reportedly failed to record the yellow cards issued to Kizito and Emojong Anthony in his match report for the KCCA FC vs NEC FC game.

The ruling significantly impacted the league standings with Mbarara City climbing to 17 points in 15 games moving one place higher. Meanwhile, KCCA FC slipped from third to fifth position, now sitting on 24 points.

The appeal process will determine whether the ruling stands or if KCCA FC can reclaim their forfeited victory.
