KCCA FC winger Usama Arafat Kiiza has been added to Uganda Cranes' provisional squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as confirmed by FUFA on Thursday, January 9, 2024.

"Usama Arafat Kiiza of KCCA FC has been added to the Uganda Cranes provisional CHAN squad that starts training on Friday," FUFA announced through their official social media platforms.

The addition follows the withdrawal of Hakim Kiwanuka and Denis Omedi, who were recently unveiled by Rwanda’s APR, making them ineligible for the CHAN tournament. Vipers SC captain Milton Karisa has also been ruled out due to injury.

Usama’s inclusion bolsters competition in the squad as head coach Paul Put finalizes preparations for the tournament. The initial 36-man provisional squad, announced on Wednesday, January 8, will now feature the KCCA FC winger as a replacement for the departing players.

The team begins non-residential training on Friday, January 10, at Luzira Prison Grounds. After three days of sessions, the squad will be trimmed to 26 players, who will then proceed to a residential training camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi starting Monday.

The CHAN tournament presents an opportunity for local-based players to showcase their talent, and Usama’s call-up adds quality and depth to the Cranes' preparations.
