Harambee Stars interim coach Francis Kimanzi believes Kenya have been growing in confidence since they stepped foot in Zanzibar for the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup tournament.

Kenya have so far played two matches, drawing 1-1 against Burkina Faso in their opener before beating Tanzania 2-0. Speaking ahead of their final group fixture against hosts Zanzibar, Kimanzi said he was impressed by the character of his players, who have been improving in every game they have played.

“We have been working hard in every single game since we arrived here, and the readiness that I am talking about is we are getting even more stronger after every match because the way we are responding in every match we are satisfied with them (players), the behavior, the character is super, and that is the preparation we are talking about,” Kimanzi told Pan-Africa Football.

“We are getting better and better as the matches progress.”

On facing Zanzibar, Kimanzi said: “First of all, we have to give respect to our opponents, especially when playing at home, it will be a difficult game but what is also important is we put into focus what we have been doing good as Team Kenya, that means we will adapt to our best way, to our best strategy, to our commitment in the tournament, so I think that will help us get through them.

“Our focus is on the match against Zanzibar and not the current standing, we have some hope that against them, we have to keep the focus and we have to keep our passion and engagement in the game as a top priority, we have to display better character, because we believe every match in this tournament as a lot of value for us.”

A win will boost Kenya's chances to qualify to the next stage.
