Asante Kotoko went six straight games without a defeat following a convincing 4-1 victory over new boys, Vision fc at the Baba Yara Stadium in the final game of the first round.
Returnee striker, Kwame Opoku scored a brace with Peter Acquah Amidu and Saaka Dauda finding a goal each for Porcupine Warriors.
The win sends the record Ghana Premier League holders into 3rd on 31 points, one behind second place Nations fc and two away from leaders, Gold Stars. Head coach of Kotoko, Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed joy at the performance shown by his charges.
“The whole technical team we are proud of their performance today especially based on what we saw today,” Narteh Ogum said.
“We saw a lot of offensive pattern of play which is a replica of what we practice in training and that invariably tells us that we are transferring everything we do at training into the game.
“And they were doing it with ease and leading to the creating of a lot chances but for probably for lack of composure in some of the situations, I think the score line would have been an avalanche of goals.
“But then scoring four goals, I think it is ok, it is the three maximum points that we want,” he added
Asante Kotoko will now turn attention to the second round of the competition where they will host strugglers, Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday, January 24.
