Ex-Asante Kotoko striker, Ahmed Toure has charged his former club and Hearts of Oak to live up to their status as the biggest teams in Ghana.

The two clubs have floundered in the past few seasons and the current Ghana Premier League term has not gone as smooth as their fans would expect. Kotoko, who are record holders of the domestic top flight, dropped into 4th on the table with 47 points after their two consecutive losses against Accra Lions [3-0] and Nations FC [2-0].

Kotoko have an arduous task on Sunday, April 27 against Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium. The team will be led by club legend, Karim Zito who replaced the departed Prosper Narteh Ogum.

Hearts of Oak on the other hand are in 6th with 42 points on the league table with 42 points with the next game against Nsoatreman cancelled due to the latter club’s exit from the domestic league.

Ahmed Toure, who had two spells at the Porcupine Warriors, believes the two top Ghanaian club must raise the level as expected of them. “I expect big clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to always be at their best. These are historic teams that should be making their mark at the top level in African football,” Toure told Original FM.

“The potential is there. The history is there. What we need now is consistency, planning, and belief,” he added.

Asante Kotoko have won the CAF Champions League twice (1970 and 1983) and Hearts of Oak lifting the prestigious title in 2000, the Super Cup in 2001 and the maiden Confederation Cup in 2004.
