Hearts of Oak’s latest signing, Kwesi Asmah has opened up on what motivated him to join the capital based club.
The 22-year-old signed for the record Ghana FA Cup holders for the next two-and-half years from Division One club, Na God FC.
The dynamic midfielder made his debut for the 2000 CAF Champions League holders in their goalless draw against newly promoted side, Basake Holy Stars in week 18 of the Ghana Premier League at Ainyinase last Sunday.
He said: “It’s a great opportunity for me and you don’t need anyone to motivate you to play for one of the best clubs in Africa as a whole. So I am motivated myself and I am ready to go. It all depends on the mindset and I am ready for it,” Asmah told Hearts of Oak media.
When asked about how he will fit into the scheme of things under head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, Asmah expressed readiness to give his all under the Ivorian tactician.
“As a footballer, you always have to be ready, we know our job. A coach goes and comes at any time [and] even in my former team, there was a change of coach and we still found a way to adjust to the system that he is playing.
“I have been training with the team [Hearts of Oak] for a while so I fit into the system very well. I was welcome very well by my teammates so I don’t see anything new.
“It’s [Hearts of Oak] one of the biggest clubs in Africa, you don’t need anyone to tell you this,” Asmah added.
The young midfielder is expected to add influence in the 2001 CAF Super Cup winners’ squad alongside, Theophilus Collinson, Mohammed Hussein, and Martin Karikari.
Hearts of Oak currently sit 5th on the league table on 30 points from 18 league matches with their week 19 encounter against Heart of Lions at the Legon Stadium on Friday, 31st January.
