After falling to Real Madrid earlier this week, Athletic Bilbao bounced back with a 1-0 victory over Las Palmas on Wednesday courtesy of Iñaki Williams' early strike.

The Ghana national team forward cleverly received a pass from Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta and only needed two touches before slotting his finish under Las Palmas keeper Dinko Horkas. Despite a decent challenge from the visitors, Bilbao kept a clean sheet and held on for the victory.

Bilbao maintain pressure on third placed Atletico Madrid with the result and have just about secured qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League. A top-five position will confirm qualification and Bilbao are nine points clear of sixth placed Real Betis.

For Williams, the goal ends an eight-match scoring drought across all competitions. His previous goal for the Basque giants came on March 6 against AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League. During this stretch, Williams scored for Ghana against Chad on international duty in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying.

Williams now has 6 goals and 8 assists this season in La Liga play and is an important contributor to Bilbao's impressive run in the Europa League, scoring 5 goals and providing an assist in 11 matches. Bilbao will next host Manchester United in their Europa League semifinal first leg on May 1.
