Lesotho coach Leslie Notsi has congratulated Angola as a strong team deserving qualification to the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals.

Notsi said this in a post-match interview after Lesotho beat the Palancas Negras 1-0 in Luanda on Saturday but still bowed out of the qualification race 2-1 on aggregate having lost the first leg 2-0 last week.

“Playing a match of this nature with such a strong team from our continent is not easy, but in one way or another, Angola is to be congratulated on qualifying,” he told Journal de Angola newspaper.

“It's a strong team. We are satisfied with the victory, but our happiness would be better with progress to the next stage. It was a good experience for the young people. For now, let’s think about the future.”

Taking his turn, Angola coach Pedro Gonçalves felt his side lost the home game because they were not effective enough in the attacking third.

“We lacked efficiency. I recognize that we could have done differently in the first half. We have a national team with good players and the outlook is good. Congratulations to the athletes who contributed to qualifying for CHAN. For now, all we can do is continue doing our work,” he said.

The Likuena won the second round, second leg match via Hlompho Kalake’s goal from the penalty spot with two minutes remaining to break in Luanda.

However, the visitors’ goal was not enough as the Palancas Negras had won the away leg through goals from Megue and Kaporal.
