AS Monaco have officially announced the signing of Libyan midfielder Moatasem Al-Musrati from Turkish club Beşiktaş on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.
Al-Musrati, a 28-year-old defensive midfielder, joined Beşiktaş on loan in February of last year from Portugal’s Sporting Braga for a €1 million fee before making a permanent move to the Turkish club last summer for €11 million.
During his time at Beşiktaş, Al-Musrati made 38 appearances, scoring three goals, and won two major trophies: the Turkish Cup, where he scored the winning goal in the final against Trabzonspor in the 94th minute, and the Turkish Super Cup, defeating Galatasaray.
Al-Musrati also played in Portugal for Sporting Clube de Braga making 151 appearances, providing 15 goals and 8 assists while winning both the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese League Cup.
He also had spells with other Portuguese clubs including Vitória Guimarães and Rio Ave.
Before moving to Portugal, Al-Musrati played for Al-Ahly Tripoli in Libya from 2013 to 2017 before transferring to Vitória Guimarães.
On the international stage, Al-Musrati has earned 38 caps for the Libyan national team scoring two goals. His biggest achievement with the national team came in 2014 when he helped Libya win the African Nations Championship (CHAN), which remains the only major title in the country's history.
