Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi has officially appointed Nasser Al-Hadiri as the team’s new head coach.
The decision comes after the club mutually terminated the contract of former Egyptian head coach Moamen Soliman. Al-Hadiri’s most recent managerial role was with the Libyan national team, where he took charge following the departure of Serbian coach Milutin "Micho" Sredojević.
During his tenure, Al-Hadiri led Libya in three matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, securing one away victory against Rwanda (0-1), a home draw against Benin (0-0) and an away defeat to Nigeria (1-0). These matches were part of Group D in the qualification campaign.
Despite his efforts, Libya failed to qualify for AFCON 2025, finishing with just 5 points from six qualification matches, four of which were under Al-Hadiri’s leadership.
Moamen Soliman departed after overseeing 12 matches with Al Ahli Benghazi, achieving nine wins, one draw, and two losses. His final match was a 2-1 defeat to rivals Al Hilal Benghazi, which cost Al Ahli Benghazi the top spot in Group B of the Libyan Premier League.
Al Ahli Benghazi currently sits second in Group B with 28 points, trailing leaders Al Hilal by two points.
