Simba SC reclaimed top spot in Tanzania's Ligi Kuu Bara following a 3-0 victory over fifth placed Tabora United on Sunday.
Cameroonian striker Leonel Ateba was the star of the show, continuing his fine form with two goals to bring his total to seven strikes in league play. The signing from USM Alger displayed his qualities on the opening goal in the 12th minute, receiving a pass from Elie Mpanzu and muscling off a defender before firing past Tabora and Gabon international goalkeeper Jean-Noël Amonome.
Simba, backed by a large number of traveling supporters at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium, doubled their lead to establish dominance and it was Ateba again. The powerful striker converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute to leave the Reds ahead by two goals after the first half.
Club legend Shomari Kapombe provided the third goal in the 66th minute. A rapid transition from the visitors saw Ateba receive the ball at the edge of the Tabora United penalty area, where his heavy touch found the run of Kapombe for the right back to produce a low finish.
Simba join rivals Yanga in beginning a busy February. The Reds of Msimbazi will travel to Singida to face Fountain Gate FC on Thursday.
