Simba SC have received a major boost with the return of their two key players as they prepare to face rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC) in a top-of-the-table Mainland Premier League fixture dubbed ‘Kariakoo derby’ at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Saturday.
According to Msimbazi Reds’ Media and Information Manager Ahmed Ally, the two - Che Malone Fondoh and goalkeeper Moussa Camara – have already resumed training with the rest of the squad and will be available for selection against the defending champions.
While Che Malone sustained an ankle injury during Simba's 2-2 draw against Azam FC, goalkeeper Camara missed the 3-0 league win against Coastal Union. The return of the two, who trained at Simba’s base Mo Arena in Bunju, Dar es Salaam, will be great news for their fans, who are eager to see their team beat Yanga for the first time this season.
“We're delighted to confirm that Camara and Che Malone are both available to play against Young Africans. Their fitness significantly strengthens our squad, especially as we push for the league title in the remaining games,” said Ally ahead of the eagerly awaited derby as quoted by the Guardian.
“We’ve consistently emphasised that securing the title requires us to overcome Young Africans. The players are in excellent spirits, and while we acknowledge the outcomes of previous matches, we're focused on being fully prepared and performing to our absolute potential.”
A win for Simba will enable them to cut Yanga’s lead at the top of the table to one point and they still have a game in hand. Yanga have so far amassed 55 points from 22 matches while Simba have garnered 54 points from 21 outings.
