Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids as raised concerns with the fitness level of his players as they prepare to face Namungo FC in a Mainland Premier League fixture at Majaliwa Stadium on Wednesday.

Ahead of the fixture in Ruangwa, the South African coach believes for the team to challenge for the title, the team must maintain their recent show, and must keep the fitness level of their players at the highest level.

“This is a round of sleepless nights. The fitness of our players is the key to the results we get. Every player who gets a chance to play is fighting to ensure we achieve our goals,” Davids said as quoted by the Guardian.

“If you give players a break, even for just two days, you have to start over. Maybe you give them a special training schedule, but that is not ideal, especially at this stage of the season. I believe that even if they leave their homes and train once a day, they will stay at their best.”

Davids further stressed that Simba’s main aim this season is to win every league game in their bid to wrestle the title from rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC).

“Our goal is to win every game. You don’t become a champion by winning four matches; we need to keep collecting points and also defend well,” he said.

“The competition is tough every team wants good results. Some are aiming to stay in the league next season, while others are battling relegation. That’s why the physical fitness of our players is very important to keep up with the pace ahead of us.”

Simba are currently in second position with 47 points from 18 matches, two less Yanga.
