Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Miloud Hamdi has revealed the importance of having a break of five days to prepare the team for their next Mainland Premier League fixture away to Mashujaa FC at Lake Tanganyika Stadium on Sunday.

Prior to the fixture, the reigning champions have been playing matches in a period of three days and according to the Algerian-French born gaffer, the five day break was very essential for his players as they resume their hunt to retain the league crown for a third straight time.

“It’s good to have five days before this game, it was a good opportunity for me to understand my players better. Just found time to make some technical adjustments in the gym, to keep my focus a bit as it's not easy to change everything at once,” Hamdi told Pan-Africa Football.

“Players already have their own playing habits, so it’s not easy to change everything. I have made strategic adjustments based on what I see and want from the players and we will continue to do so for the betterment of the club.”

On what Yanga wants from the Mashujaa game, Hamdi said: “Now we have two objectives, one is to get three important points and the other is to thank our fans, who came in large numbers to receive us when we arrived here, they have given us great joy, we are happy to see them and they are happy too. Now it is our duty to make them happy by winning this game for them.”

On coming up against Mashujaa, Hamdi, who joined the Timu ya Mwananchi from Singida Black Stars following the exit of Sead Ramovic, explained: “We have a lot of respect for every team we come up against, and it is not going to change against Mashujaa, they have good quality players and can be troublesome at some point.

“Mashujaa deserve to be up there in the league but we have also quality to navigate through such a difficult fixture, our main focus is to make sure we get the three points, and the good thing is that my players know what is expected of them, they must do everything possible to win the game.”

A win for Yanga will help them move five points clear at the top of the league table with 55 points ahead of rivals Simba SC, who will have a chance to reduce the margin when they host Azam FC at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Monday.
