After qualifying for the next stage of the CRDB domestic Cup, Young Africans (Yanga SC) have already shifted their focus to the Mainland Premier League fixture against Tabora United at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium on Tuesday.
The Citizens qualified for the quarter-finals with a convincing 2-0 victory over Championship side Songea United on Saturday. During the fixture, Yanga head coach Hamdi Miloud rested many regular players to freshen them up for the remaining league assignments.
He also missed the services of Yanga players, who were with their respective national teams for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Miloud has assured fans that he will, have his best squad on parade when they face Tabora United.
“This game is critical,” said Miloud as quoted by the Guardian. “If we secure three points there, we’ll head into our home match against Coastal Union with momentum. As a coach, sometimes you don’t have many options, but I’ll put out the best team possible against Tabora. The stakes are too high. A big thank you to the fans, who showed up in large numbers despite the rain. They took a risk to support us, and I’m truly grateful for that. Inshallah, we’ll do everything we can to win against Tabora.”
On the team’s performance in the domestic Cup, Miloud said: “We’re aiming to win the cup, so I’m delighted because the players performed professionally without mistakes. They stepped up and delivered, which isn’t easy considering this was the first time some of them played together in a match. Sure, they train together all the time, but I had to make a lot of adjustments due to limited options.
I’m especially pleased because I gave several players a chance to shine, and they responded brilliantly. This gives me confidence to field them again in the future.”
Yanga will take advantage of Simba SC, who will be away for their Caf Confederation Cup fixture against Al Masry in Cairo, to open up a gap at the top of the log. Yanga are currently leading on 58 points, one more than second-placed Simba.
