Simba SC forward Steven Mukwala has been voted the NBC Premier League Player of the month for March while coach Fadlu Davids was also voted the league's best coach for the same month.
Mukwala showed a good level with continuity, defeating Elie Mpanzu of Simba and Paschal Msindo of Azam FC, who reached the final shortlist for the monthly Awards conducted by the Tanzania Football Federation Awards Committee (TFF).
The Ugandan significantly contributed a lot to his team in the two games played by Simba in March by scoring four goals, with three goals being scored in one game (a hat-trick). Mukwala played 152 minutes across the two matches.
On the side of coach Davids, who faced off with Rachid Taoussi of Azam and David Ouma of Singida Black Stars in the final shortlist, he led Simba to win both games that were played that month.
Simba defeated Dodoma City 6-0 and Coastal Union 3-0, keeping their second spot in the 16-team Mainland Premier League table consequently pressuring table leaders and rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC).
The Msimbazi Reds are currently sitting second with 57 points, 10 less than the Citizens, with three games in hand. The awards came a day after Simba successfully secured a place in the semis of the CAF Confederation Cup following their penalty shot out win against Al Masry of Egypt.
After losing the first leg of the quarter-final clash 2-0 away in Ismailia, Simba returned home to overturn the 2-0 deficit and take the game to penalties, where they emerged 4-1 winners.
Simba will face Stellenbosch of South Africa in the last four of the inter-club competition.
