After seeing off Coastal Union 3-0, Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has revealed their readiness to face rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC) in their next Mainland Premier League fixture on Saturday.
The Msimbazi giants closed the gap between them and champions Yanga at the top of the 16-team league table to four points following the emphatic win courtesy of a hat-trick from Ugandan player Steven Mukwala.
Mukwala stole the show in the fixture at Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium after scoring in the 30th, 45th and 57th minutes respectively to hand Simba their 17th win of the campaign.
“Overall, a good performance, three points, a clean sheet and we are now ready for the derby (against Yanga),” Davids told Pan-Africa Football. “We will do normal preparations, it is a highly anticipated match, it will be against two teams going toe to toe, and we really want this type of matches.
“We wait for such matches as professionals, so it is an exciting week coming up, exciting for the fans and it is going to be a fantastic match for sure.”
On Mukwala’s hat-trick, the South African coach explained: “It was a good show from Steven (Mukwala), he comes on, he hasn’t played for a while and comes and scores a hat-trick and that really gives us depth upfront and the movements, the runs he made were great and not only for him but he also managed to create spaces for others.”
Davids continued: “It is not only the goals he (Mukwala) scored, what impressed me most is the movements he made behind the players, he was really good, he created spaces for others and that is what we wanted from him, a good performance from him, and a good performance overall form the team.
“You could see against Azam in the second half, we dropped a little bit in our intensity but today, we kept the intensity higher in the second period and even when Azam played on (Saturday), they were completely flat in terms of intensity.”
Simba have now garnered 54 points from 17 wins, three draws and one defeat while Yanga are on 58 accumulated from 19 wins, one draw and two defeats.
