Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids believes they deserved more goals in their emphatic 6-0 victory against Dodoma Jiji in a rescheduled Mainland Premier League fixture at KMC Stadium on Friday.

The Msimbazi Reds went into the game in hand knowing a win of any kind will enable them to reduce Young Africans (Yanga SC’s) lead at the top of the 16 team league table to one point and they did not disappoint as they raced into a 3-0 half-time lead.

Ellie Mpanzu scored Simba’s opener early in the 16th minute and doubled their lead in the 21st minute through Jean Ahoua. Just a few seconds before the end of the first half, Ahoua scored Simba’s third goal that earned them a 3-0 lead at the breather.

The second half saw Simba coming back with determination to score more goals, and their efforts paid off in just two minutes after the restart through Ugandan international Steven Mukwala. Denis Kibu scored Simba’s fifth goal in the 58th minute from Mpanzu’s assist, before he scored the sixth in the 67th minute.

“We could’ve scored much more, it was six goals but could have been more, the mentality was good, from the start we pressed them high and we knew they could hurt us and it was very important to steal the balls, try to win balls and even in their own box and that mentality was good for us and it helped us to the win,” Davids told Pan-Africa Football.

“Although the heat was 35 degrees, we kept the pressure for the entire first half and maybe a little bit over eagerness to score the seventh, eighth or ninth goal but fantastic performance overall and I couldn’t be more proud with the result today (Friday).”

The victory enabled Simba to move to within a point of Yanga at the summit with 57 points from 22 outings.
