Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has warned rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC) that their intention is to reclaim the top spot in the Mainland Premier League.

Yanga overtook Simba for the top spot recently after the Wekundu wa Msimbazi battled to a 1-1 draw against SIngida Black Stars while Timu ya Mwananchi hammered KenGold 6-1.

On Monday, Yanga had the opportunity to stretch their lead but instead dropped points after a 0-0 draw against JKT Tanzania at Isamuhyo Stadium. With Simba returning to action on Tuesday against Tanzania Prisons at KMC Stadium, they have a chance to reclaim their lead.

Speaking ahead of the game, the South African coach assured that their target is to reclaim the lead and go all the way to win the title.

“We will return to the top,” Davids told the media. “We are still alive in the championship battle, even though we dropped points away from home for the first time this season.

“The league still has many matches left, so anything can happen. Let’s wait and see what the end result will be. Mistakes happen in football, but we are determined to get back to our winning ways.”

On facing Tanzania Prisons, Davids said: “It will be a tough game, we all know every team plays to beat Simba, being a top team you remain a target for everyone, but my players are psyched and ready to deliver a win.

“We want to take it a game at a time, we want to pick as many points as possible and stay focused to the end and see what we will have achieved at the end of the season.”

Currently, Yanga are sitting at the top of the table with 46 points from 18 matches while Simba are second with 44 points from 17 matches. A win against Tanzania Prisons will see Simba move to the top, one point above Yanga.
