Dodome Jiji head coach Mecky Mexime was left with no words but praise for Simba SC after they demolished his side 6-0 in a Mainland Premier League fixture at KMC Stadium on Friday.
The Msimbazi Reds went into the game in hand knowing a win of any kind will enable them to reduce Young Africans (Yanga SC’s) lead at the top of the 16 team league table to one point and they did not disappoint as they raced into a 3-0 half-time lead.
Ellie Mpanzu scored Simba’s opener early in the 16th minute and doubled their lead in the 21st minute through Jean Ahoua. Just a few seconds before the end of the first half, Ahoua scored Simba’s third goal that earned them a 3-0 lead at the breather.
The second half saw Simba coming back with determination to score more goals, and their efforts paid off in just two minutes after the restart through Ugandan international Steven Mukwala. Denis Kibu scored Simba’s fifth goal in the 58th minute from Mpanzu’s assist, before he scored the sixth in the 67th minute.
“First of all I have congratulate Simba, they were the better side, they were on top of their game, they were on another level, and I had earlier said, to win such matches against such a tough opponent, your players must be smart in what they are doing,” Mexime told Pan-Africa Football.
“We simply failed because we were not smart enough, we were punished because of our own mistakes and because Simba was the better team, and they were on another level, they deserved to win, Simba played to win and they won, I give it to them.
“We were not at our best in all departments, we lost balls easily in the middle of play, we were poor in defending, and what really worked against us is the fact that when Simba had the ball, they knew what to do with it, unlike us.
“Simba outnumbered us in all areas, and that was our main undoing.”
While Simba moved to 57 points on the table, Dodoma Jiji kept their eighth spot with 27 points from 23 matches.
