Tanzanian titans Simba SC have now scored nine goals in their last two matches after easily disposing of Dodoma Jiji by a lopsided 6-0 score in Tanzania Mainland Premier League action on Friday.
The usual suspects were involved for the hosts at the KMC Complex. Congolese attacker Elie Mpanzu opened the scoring with a powerful effort from outside the box in the 17th minute, making three goals for the club since signing in the recent transfer window.
At times it appeared to be a scrimmage or training session for Simba who sliced and diced the Dodoma Jiji defense with ease. Ivorian forward Jean Charles Ahoua got in on the scoring with his first goal arriving five minutes after Mpanzu's before he doubled his tally in the final seconds of the first half.
Simba could not wait to get back to scoring during halftime and it showed soon after the whistle sounded to begin the second half. Ugandan hitman Steven Mukwala joined the party with his 9th goal of the season from a Mpanzu cross in the 48th minute and then it was time for Tanzania national team forward Kibu Denis to have his time in the spotlight. Kibu score his first in the 55th minute before striking again in the 66th minute.
After the famous Kariakoo Derby between Simba and rivals Young Africans was postponed a week ago, the tight race for the title between the two Dar es Salaam clubs remains unresolved. Yanga lead by one point with eight matches remaining for both teams.
The league will go on a two-week break with 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in Africa approaching. With CAF Confederation Cup duties approaching in early April for Simba, who qualified for the quarterfinals, the Reds will get an extended break to focus their efforts on continental competition. Yanga, eliminated from the CAF Champions League group stage, will proceed with the rest of the league at the beginning of next month.
