Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Wallace Karia has revealed their intentions to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology for the Mainland Premier League from next season.
According to Karia, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has already provided TFF provided with all the necessary documentation and guidelines for the use of VAR and it will be implemented for the 2025/26 campaign.
“The seminar for referees and officials is crucial since both CAF and FIFA require licensed VAR operators for their events,” Karia said as quoted by the Guardian.
“CAF has provided us with all the necessary documentation and guidelines for the use of VAR. We are now prepared to introduce it in the 2025/26 Premier League.”
VAR is a system used in football to help referees make accurate decisions. VAR uses video footage to review decisions and alert referees to rectify mistakes. A VAR team watches the game from a remote location, using multiple screens to see the action from different angles.
The VAR team monitors the game continuously and automatically alerts the referee if they think a mistake has been made.
The VAR team can review decisions related to goals, penalties, and other vital moments in the game. VAR is used in major football competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, the Premier League, and the Euros.
