The eagerly awaited Kariakoo derby of the 2024/25 season pitting rivals Simba SC and Young Africans (Yanga SC) has got a new date following the decision by the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) to amend previous Premier League fixtures.

A statement obtained by Pan-Africa Football, indicates that TPLB were forced to make changes following the postponement of the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which was scheduled to be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The CHAN tournament, earlier slated to kick off in February, was pushed to August, 2025. The decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) came after TPLB had already shelved league fixtures to enable national team Taifa Stars humble time to prepare for the tournament.

According to the amended fixtures, Simba will commence their second-round campaign on February 2 with an away fixture against Tabora United at the Ally Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora and then play against Singida Big Stars, Tanzania Prisons and Dodoma Jiji.

The Kariakoo derby between bitter-rivals Simba and Yanga will be played on March 8 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium while Simba’s fixture against Azam FC will be staged on February 24 at KMC Complex.

Meanwhile, Azam will host champions Yanga on May 10 at the Azam Complex. Yanga are scheduled to start the second round with matches against Kagera Sugar, KenGold, JKT Tanzania, KMC FC, and Singida Big Stars.
