Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Miloud Hamdi has bemoaned the team’s missed chances despite securing a 1-0 victory against Coastal Union in their Mainland Premier League fixture at Azam Complex Stadium on Monday.

Ivorian playmaker Pacôme Zouzoua scored the only goal of the match in the 35th minute. The former ASEC Mimosas star arrived at the far post to head in an accurate cross from Congolese attacker Maxi Nzengeli.

“I am very happy for the three points, because the three points are very crucial at this stage of the season, but I am not happy with our finishing, we had six clear chances to score and we didn’t,” Hamdi told Pan-Africa Football.

“Yanga fans are always more than happy when we win, two, three or more goals, but I urge them to be happy and take the result today because we have bagged three points despite scoring one and most importantly we remain top of the league and also the win gives us a huge boost ahead of the next game.”

Coastal Union coach Joseph Lazaro conceded defeat by saying: “We have played against a very experienced side, and they only got one chance, and turned it into the only goal of the game, and despite losing, I congratulate my players for fighting until the end of the game to deny Yanga scoring more goals.

“As much as we lost, there was a great improvement from our last two matches in terms of performance, we reduced many mistakes and reduced the number of goals we have been conceding in recent matches, we wanted a draw, but we have lost but I pick positives from the game because we managed to concede one goal.”

Yanga now hold a seven-point lead ahead of fierce rivals Simba SC, who have two games in hand on the Citizens. Simba are currently on a break from domestic league to take part in the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals.

The Msimbazi Reds will face Egypt's Al Masry on Wednesday in the second leg they will host in Dar es Salaam, where Simba need to overcome a 2-0 first leg defeat in Egypt.
