Young Africans (Yanga SC) have come to the defence of top striker Prince Dube, who has faced criticism for missed goal opportunities in the Tanzanian Mainland Premier League.
The Zimbabwean forward, who joined Yanga from Azam FC, has faced criticism from a section of fans and pundits despite his strong contributions this campaign with seven goals, four assists, and 11 goal involvements.
“I believe the criticism of Dube is very unfair, considering his contributions to the team. His chance creation, assists, and goals are significant. It's important that we support him and put in good performances as a team,” said Yanga Media Officer Ali Kamwe as quoted by the Guardian.
He added: “We shouldn’t fall into the trap of thinking our players aren't performing well when the numbers suggest otherwise. We're happy with Dube, especially now that he's started scoring. It shows his commitment to the team.”
Meanwhile, Kamwe has revealed the readiness of new coach Miloud Hamdi, who joined the team from Singida Black Stars saying he will fully take charge when they face JKT Tanzania at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium on Monday.
“The coach is already focused on our upcoming game against JKT Tanzania, and that's how we'll maintain our lead in the Premier League. We know the league is tough, but we have to keep working hard,” explained Kamwe.
“We're pleased that the managerial change hasn't affected our form and strength. Coach Hamdi responded quickly to his appointment, providing the team with a program immediately. This shows his determination and ambition going forward.”
Following the exit of Sead Ramovic, technical director Abdulhamid Moalin was in charge as Yanga secured a dominant 6-1 victory over KenGold at the KMC Complex on Wednesday.
