Top Tanzanian clubs Simba and Young Africans are threatening to break away from the rest of the pack in the nation's Mainland Premier League and Yanga showed why on Sunday.
Winners of the last three league titles, Yanga thrashed Fountain Gate by a 5-0 score at home to remain one point behind rivals Simba. Ivorian midfielder Pacôme Zouzoua contributed a hat-trick for the hosts who have won their last five league matches, conceding only two goals while scoring eighteen during this stretch.
Zouzoua opened the scoring for the reigning champions in the 16th minute with a low finish from a cross by Congolese fullback Chadrack Boka. Mudathir Yahya doubled the lead from a set piece in the 42nd minute and Zouzoua struck again just before halftime, effectively killing off any hopes of a comeback for the visitors.
Yanga added a couple more in the second half. Zouzoua completed his hat-trick before ten minutes elapsed in the second half and young star attacker Clement Mzize added his sixth league goal of the campaign late on. The Citizens return to action on January 4 when they play the first of three CAF Champions League matches against TP Mazembe at home.
