Azam FC maintained their position in the Top-3 of the Tanzania Mainland Premier League on Friday following a 3-1 victory over midtable side JKT Tanzania. Azam star midfielder Feisal Salum assisted two second half goals from Iddy Nado after Pascal Nsindo scored in the first half to cancel out the opening goal from JKT.
It was not a completely smooth ride for hosts Azam at the Azam Sports Complex. JKT managed to take the lead inside fifteen minutes after a powerful free kick from Saidi Juma went through Azam and Sudan national team goalkeeper Mohamed Mustafa before rolling just over the goal line.
However, Msindo equalized in the 35th minute from close range and that preceded a strong second half from The Bakers. In the 63rd minute, Salum chased down a pass on the right wing and crossed low for Nado to put the hosts ahead.
Eight minutes later, Salum played a quick corner kick to the edge of the area for Nado to strike a low effort from distance. JKT keeper Yakoub Suleiman made a mess of the shot which skipped off his chest and ricocheted into the goal. Azam are level with second placed Young Africans on 36 points but have played two more matches than both Yanga and league leaders Simba SC.
