Simba were forced to dig deep on Saturday in their latest league fixture but The Reds earned three points once again with a 1-0 result at Singida Black Stars. Congolese midfielder Fabrice Ngoma scored late in the first half to keep Simba at the top with their eighth consecutive victory in Mainland Premier League play.
Facing a Singida Black Stars club away from home that won their previous three matches, a difficult match was anticipated. Indeed, it took a costly mistake from Singida Black Stars goalkeeper Mnata Metacha to make the difference on the day.
In the 41st minute, a corner kick service from Simba attacker Jean Charles Ahoua was floated towards the far post. Metacha came off his line to play the ball but Ngoma rose above the goalkeeper to win the header and nod the ball into the empty goal.
Simba extend their lead at the top of the table over rivals Young Africans to four points with the result. The Dar es Salaam club will now turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup where they are engaged in a fierce battle to advance to the quarterfinals out of Group A. Simba will face Tunisia's CS Sfaxien away on January 5.
