FC Lorient have officially secured promotion to Ligue 1 after a big 4-0 victory over Caen on Matchday 32 of the French Ligue 2.
The club, which features several African players, showcased their strength throughout the season.
Among their African squad members are:
Tunisian defender Montassar Talbi
Ivorian-Guinean forward Mohamed Bamba
Senegalese defender Formose Mendy
Cameroonian left-back Darlin Yongwa
Congolese right-back Gédéon Kalulu
Beninese striker Aiyegun Tosin
Cameroonian midfielder Arthur Avom
Senegalese forward Sambou Soumano
Ghanaian defender Nathaniel Adjei
Lorient currently sit at the top of the Ligue 2 standings with 68 points, three points ahead of second-placed Paris FC and seven points clear of Metz in third, with only two matches remaining.
With the top two teams earning automatic promotion to Ligue 1, Lorient have confirmed their return to the top flight without the need to compete in the promotion playoffs, which involve the teams finishing third, fourth, and fifth.
Lorient’s promotion marks a quick comeback after they relegated at the end of last season, finishing 17th in the Ligue 1 standings.
