Malawi senior women’s football team coach Kalisto Pasuwa has cautioned the Flames against complacency when meeting Comoros in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier on Saturday.

Pasuwa said his team must put behind their 2-0 victory from the first leg and deliver the goods again in the reverse fixture at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. In a post-match interview on Friday, Pasuwa called for more focus and discipline in this game.

“It is a game that is just starting. In football, if you start thinking you are safe with a 2-0 lead, you might lose everything. We need to be compact and stick to our normal style of play,” the Zimbabwean said.

The former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets mentor insisted that his team was far from getting peak fitness as the season is on break in Malawi.

“In the first game, we struggled with fitness after the 55th minute, so we have been improving that. While we haven’t pushed the players to their absolute limits, we have ensured they can sustain their energy throughout the second half,” he added.

The Flames will have to face Comoros minus Mighty Wanderers left-back Timothy Silwimba and Silver Strikers defender Washali Jaziya who picked knocks in training while attacker Chikumbutso Salima is available for selection.

Malawi won the first leg through goals from Binwell Katinji and Zebron Kalima. The winner between the two teams date either South Africa or Egypt in the final CHAN qualifying stage.
