Malawi’s Scorchers: Football Association of Malawi.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has opened investigations on its executive committee member accused of sexually harassing a senior women’s national football team player during a recent trip to South Africa.
Media reports claim that the FAM official sent text messages and entered the hotel room of the player to demand sex. However, the player did not yield to the demands even after being promised money.
In a statement, FAM says it “has taken serious note of allegations of sexual misconduct involving a member of the Malawi Women’s National Team (The Scorchers) delegation during a recent international engagement.”
“FAM has, therefore, instituted a formal inquiry to investigate and make findings on the matter. This process will be undertaken pursuant to applicable rules and policies that ensures fairness and justice for all parties involved,” the association’s statement reads.
“FAM wishes to assure the general public and all stakeholders that it remains fully committed to the safety, dignity and wellbeing of all its players and officials in line with its safeguarding policy.”
Media reports suggest the incident happened during the Scorchers’ trip to South Africa for friendlies. The Scorchers lost 3-0 to Banyana Banyana on April 5 and 2-1 on April 8, 2025.
